With Gametimer, you can manage screen time together with your child
The dangers of too much screen time
On average children spend more than 7 hours per day in front of a screen. Too much screen time can lead to troubles with eyesight, lack of sleep, headaches, obesity and even loss of social skills. Many parents believe their child is addicted to gaming, while scientific research shows only 1-2% of children are actually addicted. But are you convinced that your child’s screen time is out of control nonetheless, and do you want to change this? Then the solution is the Gametimer!
The purpose of the Gametimer
By using the Gametimer, children learn to deal with their maximum daily screen time in an educational manner. Gametimer helps to set clear rules and teaches children to become more aware of their screen time. This way, children learn that regularly taking breaks is an important part of gaming and screen time. But also that they can decide for themselves when and for how long they can play games, up until their maximum screen time for that day has been reached. This allows them to become more conscious about their screen time and teaches them to plan and divide their time in front of a screen better and more efficiently.
How it works
Play
Before you start using the Gametimer, it is important that you set clear rules and make agreements about the allowed screen time and the number of mandatory breaks and their duration. These can then be added to the Gametimer app, after which the device is directly ready for use.
Position the Gametimer with the green side facing up, and the time will start ticking. The set times will be displayed on the display as well as by means of the 10 LEDs.
Break
By turning the Gametimer horizontally, the time will switch over to ‘Break’ time. This way, gaming can be resumed at a later time without losing gaming time. 2 beebs are displayed per minute, and after 5 minutes, 2 beebs will be displayed every 15 seconds. This way it is clear the Gametimer is in break mode. When the Gametimer is switched back to ‘Play’ mode, the time will start running again.
Stop
When all the time is up, the Gametimer will emit a sound. This means playtime is over, or that the child’s daily screen time has been used up. The sound will continue to be emitted until the Gametimer is turned over with the red side facing up. It is now no longer possible to turn the Gametimer over onto the ‘Play’ side without it emitting a sound. In other words: Enough is enough!
Useful tip: do you want to give your children a little more (or less) time for the day? You can easily manage this through the timer screen in the
Gametimer app. For example, this allows you to easily give them a little more screen time during holidays!
